Glucosamine, Chondroitin and MSM are combined to address joint problems
particularly in the case of worn joints where arthritic symptoms are present.
Glucosamine and Chondroitin is used extensively in veterinary medicine for
treatment of degenerative joint diseases. Glucosamine, Chondroitin and
MSM are all naturally found in the human body. Glucosamine and Chondroitin are
sulfate supplements used to slow the progression of osteoarthritis and MSM is
included to help with control of the pain associated with osteoarthritis.
A recent study conducted on over 1,000 people suffering from osteoarthritis has
concluded that Glucosamine Hydrochloride and Chondroitin Sulfate has no better
effect than a placebo. There was some evidence that it may help in very extreme
cases but this requires further investigation to be confirmed. There is also a
possibility that Glucosamine Sulfate may give differing results but it appears
that this is unlikely.
The current thinking is that, although there is some evidence that these
substances may be beneficial in the joints, both substances are broken down in
the digestive process and the little that manages to get into the blood stream
is filtered out by the liver and other organs before it can reach the arthritic
sites to ease pain and discomfort.
