Often described as the better alternative to Prozac, 5-HTP or
5-Hydroxytrytophan is one of the important neurotransmitters we need for
effective brain function. 5-HTP is closely related to serotonin. 5-HTP
(5-Hydroxytrytophan) is made from an extract of the Griffonia Simplicifolia
plant. Poor diet, stress and a lack of exercise is unfortunately a way of
life for many city dwellers. This not only wreaks havoc on the body but it is
also strongly correlated to low levels of serotonin. A lack of serotonin leads
to mood swings, depression and insomnia. Low levels of serotonin has also been
associated with reduced intellectual ability. 5-HTP increases the cell's
production of serotonin and has been reported to be better tolerated than SSRIs.
