Sulphur |
General description:
Sulphur is caused by volcanic activity and is the reason why volcanic areas have
that distinct rotten-egg smell. Sulphur (flowers of sulphur) is found around
volcanic hot springs and volcanic craters.
Sulphur is used in the manufacturing of gunpowder and is an important fungicide
particularly in horticulture. It is also used in the manufacture of paints and
dyes and in the tire industry to increase the durability of rubber compounds.
Part used and extraction:
Chemically refined sulphur is used in this remedy.
Remedy preparation:
The sulphur is triturated to make it soluble.
History:
Medicinal use of Sulphur goes back to ancient times when it was used
as a laxative (more a purgative), antiseptic and disinfectant. Sulphur was burnt
in medieval times to stop spreading infections (when burnt sulphur gives off
sulphur dioxide, which is a strong disinfectant although it has an unpleasant
rotten egg smell).
Hahnemann proved the remedy.
Remedy profile:
Self centered, lazy, detail minded people that are impractically
intelligent and untidy suit this remedy. They generally are untidy in appearance
as well. Sulphur people normally like intellectual discussions, can tend to be
dismissive of the ideas of others but are also generous with their money and
time. They are generally thought to be dreamers and find it hard to realize
their dreams because they lack the practicality. They tend to be very critical
of others and the ideas of others, dismissing them as impractical.
Their dress sense and housekeeping ability reflect this lazy disorganization
too. Their clothes always look disheveled, unmatched and if not dirty certainly
not ironed. Their homes and offices are disorganized and untidy and often dirty.
They seem totally unaware of the impression they create.
They are always thirsty and hot. They perspire a lot.
When ill they smell worse and are always red in the face, sometimes in spots.
Their breath smells stale and they cannot stand warmth feeling irritable and
overheated.
