General description and domicile:
Native to Southern Europe this hardy plant has been cultivated in other parts of
the world. It is a very tough evergreen shrub that grows virtually anywhere and
can stand droughts for prolonged periods.
Part used and extraction:
All of the above ground parts of the plant is used, harvested in the flowering season.
Remedy preparation:
Chopped and steeped in alcohol to obtain mother tincture
History:
The use of Ruta Graveolens as a herbal medicine dates back to Ancient
Greece. It was a remedy frequently prescribed by Hippocrates.
As a herbal medicine it was used extensively for many ailments including an
antidote for poisoning, to improve eyesight, against epilepsy, as a menstrual
tonic and to induce abortion and labor.
Remedy profile:
Anxious, tense people that tend to panic and are often weepy respond
best to this remedy. Ruta people are often suspicious of others and dissatisfied
with their own lot in life as well as being dissatisfied with the role that others
play. They are also distrustful of others frequently feeling that they are being
plotted against or criticized behind their backs.
When ill they become irritable and fearful and can easily fall into depression.
This remedy is very effective against muscular strain caused by overworking or
injury.
