General description and domicile:
Native to the USA and Canada this small shrub grows in colder
climates in moist ground.
It sends up a sparse number of stems hardly ever taller than eighteen inches
crowned by two leaves shaped like a duck's foot (hence the common name). The
roots contain several tubers or rhizomes.
It gets one, rarely two, foul smelling flowers that are white and about two
inches long, low down on the plant. The flowers give way to golf ball sized
oblong fruit that are edible.
The leaves and root contain a virulent poison.
Warning: Extreme care must be taken when handling this
plant as very little contact with the leaves, stems and roots can be fatal.
Part used and extraction:
The freshy dug up rhizome is used.

Chopped and steeped in alcohol to obtain mother tincture
History:
The herb was used by Native Americans as a Vermifuge.
