| Antimonium Crud. Antimonium Crudum |
Black sulphide of antimony |
Sulphide of Antimony |
General description and domicile:
Antimony occurs in the mineral stibnite which is found in quartz veins in Europe
and America. Stibnite occur as clusters of opaque black crystals that have a
metallic sheen.
Warning: Antimony is
very toxic when ingested. Very small doses can be fatal.
Part used and extraction:
Stibnite crystals are used to make the remedy.
Remedy preparation:
The stibnite crystals are heated to extract the antimony which is then
triturated with lactose to form the mother tincture.
History:
The name antimony (anti-monk) dates back to an anecdotal record of a monk,
who observed that pigs seem to benefit from the substance and decided to give it
to the members of his monastery. Unfortunately they all died.
In ancient times in Rome and Egypt stibnite was used as kohl by
women for its cosmetic properties and by men to reduce the reflection of the sun
on their cheeks.
Antimony was used to treat hoof damage on horses until recently
and it was also used to treat cattle and fatten pigs. Antimony was included in
the alloy brass bells were made of to improve the sound of the ringing and it is
still used in small amounts to improve the color of gold in jewelry.
Antimonium Crudum was proved by Hahnemann.
Remedy profile:
People who eat more than needed and become sluggishly fat or even
obese with poor, overloaded, digestive systems. Because of their need to overeat
and the poor gastric system many react by developing a strong revulsion for food
which could lead to severe sudden weight loss. A thick white coating on the
tongue is always present (in fact, without it this remedy has a very slim chance
of being successful).
Sulky, withdrawn and irritable people who always believe that
their past was much better. Sentimental people prone to prolonged grief. Dislike
being touched, spoken to or even looked at.
Children needing this remedy are not easy to live with. They are
prone to tantrums if looked at and want you to go away or not look at them. They
react strongly to being touched and do not want to be engaged in any
conversation.
