A compress is one of the ways to apply herbs and herbal extracts to the skin for therapeutic purposes.

A wet compress a clean cloth, bandage or even tissue paper is emerged in a liquid form of the herb (a tincture,  decoction or infusion) and the applied to the skin (and bandaged over for prolonged applications).

A dry compress is where the herbs are placed on the skin either in their natural state, dried out state or a dried extract of the herb. Again this can be bandaged over for prolonged application.
