Cardamom is actually the name of an Indian spice blend that was presumably
based on the Cardamom seed. Cardamom is called Elattari or Ilachi in India. In
the Middle East Cardamom is used to flavour coffee in all of Arabia and has been
used as a digestive system tonic as far back as the time of the ancient Egyptian
empire. Apart from a flavouring for food and a stomachic Cardamom's only
remaining medicinal use is the extracted oil that is widely used in massages and
as an Aromatherapy essential oil where it plays a big role.
