| Shingles Description:
Shingles is the common name for Herpes Zoster.
Herpes Zoster is normally an acute infection of the skin by the varicella virus
which is normally a reactivation of the latent virus. The condition can be very
painful, is normally on the torso and often follows the course of a particular
nerve that lies far below the skin even though it seems to have no effect on the
function of the nerve at all.
