| Sea sickness Description:
Sea sickness or motion sickness is a condition called Kinesia. Kinesia is
a condition caused by motions in any combination of directions mostly
experienced in a boat or car but some even suffer from kinesia in planes and
trains. Symptoms can vary from a slight feeling of vertigo, nausea and
disorientation to severe cases of vomiting, vertigo and headaches. Motion
sickness (kinesia) is caused by a disturbance or disorientation in the labyrinth
of the inner ear which then sends confused messages to the brain where it is
exacerbated by feedback from the other senses like sight and sensory messages.
Normally motion sickness only lasts for a day or two after which the brain
manages to sort out the confusion and can deal with the situation. Some cases
may be more persistent but should eventually go away. This is not much
comfort to the sufferer as it only applies to an ocean voyage, other trips are
normally too short to adjust to. There is also evidence that supports the theory
that the brain learns to respond with nausea to pre learnt experiences of motion
sickness. Any motion sickness symptoms that are accompanied by pain or
loss of muscle control is not motion sickness and a doctor must be consulted
immediately.
