| Parkinson's Disease Description:
Parkinson's disease is a slow developing neurological disease that is
characterized by tremor of the hands (and other parts of the body but most
obvious in the hands), shuffling gait, loss of expression in the face, slurred
speech, stiff muscles, involuntary rolling of the hands, hunched forward posture
and weakness.
Parkinson's disease has no known cause, normally affecting people over 60
(although there are cases where it occurred in much younger people) and seems to
affect men more than women.
The disease normally starts with very few symptoms (in most cases a resting
tremor) and may take many years to progress to the acute stage of almost total
paralysis.
