| Osteoarthritis
Description: Osteoarthritis is the most common form of arthritis in which
a joint suffers degenerative change forming osteophytes (bone spurs) and/or
loss of cartilage with floating cartilage particles. The cause of
osteoarthritis is unknown.
Initially symptoms are pain after use or exercise of the joint. The joint
becomes chronically stiff and sensitive to touch or bumping the joint.
In the next phase of osteoarthritis the joint enlarges visibly and
becomes more painful if touched, while exercising it and after exercise.
Eventually the joint can become very deformed and functionally impaired and
in extreme cases semi-dislocated.
