| Leprosy Description:
Although it may spread after prolonged contact Leprosy is not very contagious.
There are two forms of Leprosy: Tuberculoid leprosy which is found in
people with a high resistance, characterised by thickening of nerve tissue in
the skin where saucer like lesions form with little or no feeling.
Lepromatous leprosy occurs in people with little resistance and is far more
invasive, involving many body systems, destruction of cartilage and bone,
peripheral oedema, testicular atrophy and even blindness. Leprosy very
rarely causes death and then normally only as a consequence of a secondary
disease.
