Hyperpigmentation is a darkening of the skin. It normally does not occur evenly
and has the appearance of darker "stains".
The causes of hyperpigmentation are varied. It can be caused by trauma, in which
case it will be localized to the trauma site and it is often as a result of sun
damage (as in age spots), but many of the severe cases are hereditary.
