| Hot Flushes Description:
During menopause the hormone imbalances cause the capillaries of the skin to
dilate which causes it to darken (redden in fair people) and a sense of heat is
experienced as a result of the sudden increase of warm surface blood. The flush
lasts for a short while giving a sensation of overheating and often causing
perspiration.
After the flush the skin feels cold and the person may experience a chilled
feeling of "Goosebumps".
The exact cause of a hot flush is not known as there seems to be no definite
mechanism that triggers it. It also varies in intensity, frequency and duration
and many women do not experience hot flushes during menopause
