| Heart palpitations Description:
Heart palpitations is caused by fibrillation of a heart muscle. Fibrillation is
an involuntary recurrent and rapid contraction of a muscle, in this case one or
more heart muscles. Brief periods (a couple of seconds) of fibrillation of
the heart muscle may not be life threatening but keep in mind that while a heart
muscle fibrillates it is interfering with the regular rhythm of the heart and
when that happens the heart does not pump properly. Heart palpitations
that are frequent or last for more than a few seconds must be referred to a
doctor who may refer you to a specialist to determine if there is a need for a
pacemaker.
