| Haemorrhoids Description:
Haemorrhoids are a varicose vein in the lower rectum or anus. Haemorrhoids are
caused by congestion of the blood dilating the veins due to a failure of the
valves in the vein and consequential extension or "bagging" of the vein (see
also varicose veins). Haemorrhoids can be
internal or external. Painful haemorrhoids are normally internal in origin that
have extended through the anal sphincter.
