| Gastroenteritis Description:
A condition caused by ingesting food or liquid that contain a virus, parasite or
bacteria. This condition is commonly known as gastric flu if caused by a virus
or food poisoning if caused by bacteria.
Symptoms are abdominal cramps, nausea, vomiting often followed by diarrhea.
The symptoms usually ease after 24 hours.
Dehydration is one of the risks associated with these conditions. This
particularly applies to small children that could become dangerously dehydrated
in as little as four hours. If you have any concerns or if the condition
persists for more than 24 hours (much less in children), see your doctor.
