| Diphtheria Description:
Diphtheria is an acute disease caused by the bacterium Corynebacterium
diphtheriae. If you have not been immunised against diptheria I
strongly suggest that you do so at the earliest opportunity. Diphtheria is a
killer and if not treated is almost always fatal. Conventional treatment of
diphtheria is hospitalisation in an isolated environment as the disease is also
very contagious. Symptoms are: a very inflamed throat, severe congestion
and swelling of the throat, swollen glands (lymph glands) in the neck, swelling
of the neck and stiffness of the neck. Corynebacterium
diphtheriae produces a systemic toxin and a lining of the mucous membrane of
the throat almost like an extra skin. This lining often interferes with eating
drinking and breathing and may have to be bypassed by performing a tracheotomy.
The toxin is also very damaging to the heart, other organs and nervous
system. Unchecked this damage can be fatal too. Recovery from this disease is
very slow. Do not use any alternative medicine without consulting your
doctor and do not treat diphtheria at home as the risk to the patient and others
that come into contact with the patient is far too high.
