| Dehydration Description:
Dehydration is a life threatening condition.
Dehydration (also referred to as a loss of fluid) happens when the body uses and
excretes more water than it consumes. The human body will dehydrate rapidly in
the following cases: vomiting, diarrhea, while taking diuretics, when
overheated, when running a high temperature and if not enough water is drunk.
Dehydration is the biggest killer of babies in the world. The smaller the child
the higher its need for water relative to its weight and the sooner it suffers
from dehydration.
Symptoms are: thirst, dark urine, infrequent urination, lethargy, irritability
and the skin loses tone looking and feeling parchment-like.
If you suspect dehydration in a small child rush it to the nearest hospital. In
the case of an adult, if they will not drink or cannot retain water seek medical
attention too.
Always remember that the body does not only lose water - electrolytes and other
salts are lost too so these need replenishing too.
