| Chorea Description:
Chorea is a condition characterized by involuntary, rapid motions like a
"nervous twitch" of the face, a shrug of the shoulders or sudden jerking of the
hands. These motions seem to be uncontrollable and serve no purpose although
they seem to be well coordinated and intentional.
Chorea is often associated with irritability and emotional instability. The
person may also suffer from restlessness, weakness and depression.
Although it is theorized that Chorea is normally caused by some form of
emotional trauma or stress, there are many cases where the onset of Chorea
cannot be linked to anything specific. Chorea frequently disappears after a
period that could be years.
