| Cataracts Description:
A cataract is a white/grey opacity in the lens of the eye behind the pupil.
Although cataracts can be caused by trauma it is generally a genetic
condition that is passed down from one or both parents. Cataracts develop as a
degenerative change that develops progressively after middle age, mostly only
becoming acute after 60. In the initial stages of development of cataracts
the only symptom is slightly blurry vision in the eye most noticeably at night
when bright lights are diffused. This is followed by distorted vision and/or
double vision. Cataracts can generally not be treated with medicine. The
solutions we have offered below are only supported by anecdotal evidence which
can easily be distorted as cataracts occasionally stabilise by themselves and
may not progress for several years. Your vision is important and as
there are many surgical procedures available that can restore full vision we
urge that you see a doctor as soon as possible.
