| Black eye Description:
A black eye is caused by an injury or trauma to the tissue surrounding the eye.
The darkened areas is caused by bruising which is a sign of some local internal
hemorrhage and is often accompanied by extensive swelling sometimes closing the
eye. In severe cases the eye may also be bruised, appear bloodshot or in more
severe cases have signs of internal hemorrhage too.
The swelling should reduce in a day or two and discoloration may take up to two
weeks.
