| Alzheimer's Disease Description:
Alzheimer's disease is a progressive mental deterioration causing memory failure
and disorientation. Other symptoms are confusion, hallucinations, speech
impairment and incontinence. Development of the disease can be very
gradual and can start as early as middle age. Alzheimer's disease can not
be tested for while the patient is alive. Diagnosis is iterative and only
reasonably accurate when failure of at least three basic cognitive functions
(like personality, memory, calculating ability and language) has been
established. Alzheimer's disease can at present not be cured. All
medication for this condition focuses on slowing the deterioration of brain
function down.
