| Analgesic Description:
A substance that relieves pain. Some analgesic substances act on the central
nervous system, changing the perception of pain. These are normally used for
acute pain and should be used with care as they are mostly habit forming. Mild
analgesics tend to mask the sense of pain at the peripheries and although not as
affective against severe pain, are less addictive.
