I was once told that innuendo was an Italian suppository. Suppositories are
capsule or cigar shaped solid single dosage forms designed for easy insertion in
the rectum. They are valuable for treating hemorrhoids and can also be used for
systemic absorption of medicines that are destroyed in the upper digestive tract
and are therefore only effective in the colon.
The easiest way to make a herbal suppository is to mix the dried herb powder with
cocoa butter or other solidifying, safe vegetable oil, roll it into a cone for
easy insertion and refrigerate briefly to make it easy to handle.
Suppositories can also be used for patients who are nauseous or vomiting and
therefore unable to keep remedies down.
