Lecithin:
Lecithin is a phospholipid found in plant and animal tissue. Lecithin is
needed for the metabolism of fats and is an essential part of all cell
membranes.
Lecithin is an emulsifier widely used in the cosmetics and pharmaceutical
industry as a spreading ingredient in make-up, crèmes and ointments. It is an
antioxidant and is used as an emollient in many preparations.
Lecithin is present in all living organisms but highly concentrated in egg
yolk (almost 10%) from which it is extracted for commercial purposes.
