Also Known As (other names): 

Nordihydroguaiaretic Acid (NGDA): Originally used as a food additive it is now banned as a food additive in many countries as tests on rats showed cysts and kidney damage. Widely used in cosmetics that are fat based as a preservative.

NGDA is an effective antioxidant and antimicrobial.

NGDA is a Lignan.

Lignans: Lignans occur in a variety of plants and cannot be classified in terms of properties as a group. Some are antiviral and antimicrobial while others are antioxidant and anti-tumour. The latter are currently being researched as there is some indication that they may have a positive cardiovascular effect.
